Garmin Watch Forerunner Calorie Count

Hi!

So I just got the garmin forerunner 10. I'm a 5'4 118 pound 23 year old girl and I'm finding the garmin calorie count is very different than the my fitness pal calorie count. Anyone using a watch have any insight? The one I have does not let me input my weight/age or heart rate but it does track my pace and miles w/ gps.

Thanks!

Here is a review on how different Garmin's estimate calories.

From what I gather your model does not track HR so it would be based on an algorithm, just like MFP (although they are obviously different). Also, since it does not include your weight it would be more of an "average".

You don't list the calorie values, but at your weight you are likely burning less than 100 calories per mile on average.

I'd be less inclined to go with the Garmin since it doesn't even include your weight in the calculation.

When I had a basic Garmin GPS it took weight into account as well as age and sex. Are you sure you aren't missing something?

The forerunner 10 does allow you to set weight, according to this: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2012/08/garmin-forerunner-watch.html
Mine (the 110) doesnt let me input weight onthe watch itself but on garmin connect you can go into settings and change your weight there and that feeds through to the watch, have you tried that?
