I love my Garmin 210! Got it from Amazon and it's a great starter watch. Came with a HRM strap, but it was hard plastic and after running with it a couple of times and getting the mother of chafe, I upgraded to the soft strap. So, save yourself some money and don't get the strap that comes with it as there are two buying options.

I've been using it for 2 years and have zero regrets.

Of course, now I want the Samsung S5 with the FitGear, cuz it's like some next-level **** Tracy stuff.

What activities do you plan to use it for?

If one of the main goals is coming up with decent estimates of calorie burns, you'll need one that has VO2max stat, and hopefully a self-test to estimate it.

Much better than the rough estimate without it.

For Polar, cheapest I found is RS300X.

You don't mention what your definition of affordable is, so that's not possible to take in to consideration.

But none of them can track that long, they will run out of space. So perhaps a means of getting the info off and elsewhere easily.

Besides, I'm assuming tracking means reviewing, and you really won't find that easy actually on the watch.

Read some reviews. And then think about what you really want, I don't think you have a clear picture yet.

Oh ya, a watch that reads your heart rate is called a Heart Rate Monitor, or HRM, so you can search better.

I love my Polar Loop with my Polar HRM. It's waterproof so I shower and swim with it!
