Should you share your goals?

I recently watched a video; where Derek Sivers announces that if you keep your goals to yourself, you are more likely to get them done. I don't agree with this at all, as I found the more I've shared my fitness and weight loss goals, the more likely I am to achieve them, as I'm disappointing others, not just myself.

Since starting my journey to a healthier and fitter me, I've kept a blog and shared it with friends and family, and talking about it with them makes the process easier and provides supports.

So I was just wondering what the rest of MFP think of this, and do you agree or disagree with Derek Sivers statement?

When I first started losing weight years ago, I did keep my goals to myself. I didn't think I could actually do it and so I didn't want to let anyone down. NOW, I stand on a mountain and yell it to the WORLD!!! It definetly helps keep me accountable and makes its easier to seek support, motivation and inspiration. And never be dissappointed in yourself!!! You're trying... and thats what matters!!! SHOUT IT OUT!!!

I shared my goal in the beginning and received mixed replies. Since then I pretty much keep my goals to myself and sometimes share them when I have reached them.

When I told my good friend my initial weight goal her reply was maybe I will want to continue listing when I get there . . . the last time I saw her she commented that she will be glad when I reach my goal and then maybe I will put some weight back on! Not sure why people feel the need to share their opinion of your goals!
