Why do people say that corn shouldn't be a veggie because it's not good for you? I know corn vegetable and I'm sure it's good for you because I've been told to eat my veggies ever since I was a little girl. Could someone please explain to me how corn isn't good for an individuals health?

Technically it's a grain I think?0

Corn is called sweet for a reason. It has 29 grams of carbs per cup and if you're watching carbs, that's on the high side. It's also lower in protein than other veggies.0

Corn isn't a vegetable. Its a grain. And I don't think its any worse than any other grain.0

Corn is a starchy vegetable like peas, potatoes, parsnips. Choose corn but choose less often.0

I believe corn is considered a vegetable until it's fully matured and dry, then it's a grain. We don't call wheatgrass a grain?
If you're watching carbs it might not be a great choice. Moderation is important as the calories add up faster than non-starchy veggies, too.
Also, diabetics should watch carb intake as the carbs are where their dysfunction lies.0 -
Fresh corn has all kind of vitamins and minerals. I look at it like potatoes-fine in moderation. Here's a link to an article about corn myths.

There's nothing wrong with corn. I have it several times a week in the form of popcorn!
I have heard a friend of mine bash it because she said "all corn is genetically modified" but so are like, all tomatoes, and lots of other veggies. I don't care about GMO so much as whether or not I'm getting nutrients.0 -
Well, if we are going to look at this scientifically then really you could call anything edible from a plant a vegetable so you should take everything everyone tells you in moderation. That being said, I think a good thing to remember is that like most people in this thread have mentioned corn is a really caloric vegetable and is not as nutrient dense as greens and other, leafier forms of delicious plant flesh.0
