hi everyone
so i just got a new job as a bartender. and was told that i will be working more than 8 hr shifts with only 1 30 min break. so it sucks because i am one to eat smaller meals all day... i was thinking of earting more before i go to work like a protein shake and oatmeal or egg whites and putting baby carrots in a small bag and putting it in my apron... any other ideas?

I make granola bars with peanut butter and whey protein in them, it's a good 200 calories and nice and filling. Something like that would be quick to eat.
Also, just make sure to eat something very sating on your lunch break. Get a good mix of protein, fats and carbs and I'm sure you can make it until you're off work. Eat a snack before you go in, and have one for when you clock out.0 -
 What country do you live in?
In the US, federal labor law is: after 6 hours is a half hour break, 8 hours+ is a half hour plus two fifteen minute breaks.0 -

Some employees are exempt for various reasons. This may be one of them. *shrug*
OP, I'd just start making it a habit to eat larger meals. And make your lunch count.0 -
Yea, like everybody follows the Federal labor law0

Well, most places make attempts -- you know, avoid being sued and all that.
It might be an position that falls outside the labor law, however, every restaurant and retail position I've had didn't. So it's worth at least checking into.
ETA: Might vary by state. No sure. All I remember are the posted that were plastered all over the back rooms of places I've worked.0 -
I blend cooked chilled oatmeal into smoothies, with a few scoops of protein powder, avocado and whatever fruit to suit my mood. These things keep me full for HOURS, and the best part, you can just duck out for 20 seconds and take a few swigs every so often to keep from getting starving.0

we have to waive our breaks unless we want to lose out in money... if i take a break im allowing someone else to tale the bar and take the tables i could of made money on... but i do have to take 1 30 by lawni cant waive that one... i was thinking protein bars i already do a shake before i go in... any good protein bar recipes? anything else u guys can think of?0

frozen solid smoothie or milkshake as it defrosts you sip between customers.
in your apron pocket babybel cheeses with the wax wrap for when you have a couple seconds to pop one.
string cheese but it won't hold up as well and will melt with ur body heat.
during lunch concentrate on fast protein/fat meal to keep u sated. maybe a wrap with sufficient meat and fat to get u thru ur second half of work.
I think if you combined some of these things you could feel satisfied during your shift.
eating a decent sized balanced meal right before you start should help as well. also eating afterwards.0 -

Now, ur being greedy. your health is worth more than that money you think you are losing.
I was a cocktail waitress and whenever one of these greedy broads jumped my table and put herself in the weeds I just let it happen. freed me up to provide better service to my fewer guests and i made more money overall. Quality versus Quantity.0
