Protein shake questions

I am a very active girl (I'm doing *something* for at least an hour a day, 6 days per week, and often am doing 2-3 hours of activity).
Should I be drinking protein shakes? I know they don't turn me into a muscled-beast of a woman, so there's no concern there. I just don't know if it would be helpful for me to buy the powder and mix it in smoothies.
If I don't *need* to drink them, are there just any overall good reasons to do so anyway?

"Helpful" how? What are you trying to achieve?
If you are not actively trying to maintain or build muscle, there is no real need or added health benefit of drinking them. I use them to help reach my obscenely high protein goals every day, but you and I probably have very different goals.0
