Healthy Calorie Counting

I did a lot of research last night, and was trying to make sure I'm eating the proper amount of calories. If I understand right, I am not. My goal is 1200 a day, and then I eat back my workout calories. But, my BMR is around 1500, and my TDEE is around 2000. If I did the math correctly, I should be eating around 1700 calories a day without eating my exercise calories back. I would love to do that if it ensures my health, but what if it doesn't work? How am I supposed to bring myself to eat that many calories a day when I'm used to so little? My weight loss has been a little bumpy lately, so I would love to try something new. I just want to know for sure that it will work. Has anyone else done anything similar? What are your opinions, should I up my calories?

Your calories amount is determined by your weekly weight loss rate. The more weight you shoot for, the less calories you get to eat.
As a rule of thumb, the following weekly targets would give a balance between minimizing these negative side effects and seeing a reasonable weekly weight loss:
More than 75 lbs: 2 lbs/week
40-75 lbs: 1.5 lbs/week
10-40 lbs: 1 lb/week
Less than 10 lbs: 0.5 lb/week
