I knew taking the medicine my doctor prescribed to me would make me gain weight. He gave me steroids for my sinus infection. Those pills made me feel yucky & they made my appetite pickup. Since last week, I have gained 3 lbs. I was doing so good, now my feeling are just hurt.

Don't get down on yourself or the Doctor. You were sick and had to take them to get better. Just move on from here. Keep going! :flowerforyou:

I totally understand! I have rheumatoid arthritis and was on prednisone for over a year. It makes weight loss really hard - but this isn't permanent, it's not something you have to be on long term - nor is the weight gain permanent. Work on getting better - and then go from there. Don't lose the faith - you can totally kick this!!
  • This is going to sound odd if you've never tried it but .... go out and get yourself a "neti pot" at a health food store. It is this little mini teapot looking thing that you fill with lukewarm salty water solution and then rinse you nasal and sinus passages with it. WORKS LIKE A CHARM, has been for thousands of years. Don't take medications whenever this can be avoided. If they are doing this to your weight, imagine what's happening to the rest of your insides.
  • PS. Weight loss and healthy natural habits go hand in hand. Good Luck!
  • You can't help that you were sick!!! You had to get better!

I used to get chronic sinus infections until my doctor told me to take over the counter Sudafed at the first sign of sinus issues. I have done that ever since and no longer require a doctor's visit for painful sinus infections. The down side is now that they put the old Sudafed behind the pharmacy, I have to practically sign my life away to get it. But it is worth it. The newer Sudafed PE is worthless.

LOVE my neti pot . . . has saved my life a number of times after a bad sinus infection . . . wish I would have known about it sooner. Hey, I've gained 3 pounds in one meal of bad choices . . . and with lots of water and some dedication it can be gone within the week. Three pounds is nothing . . . I have regular water weight fluctuations of that little amount so don't sweat it at all.

If you have sinus infections frequently please see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist! I had what I thought were alergies and was taking OTC meds with sudafed for years. My regular GP would give me antibiotics 5-6 times a year for sinus and throat issues. After I saw an ENT doc and had an MRI done we found that I had some structural issues that kept my sinuses from draining properly and kept causing infections. She also found that I had some polyps that were causing me to have difficulty breathing through my nose at all. I thought I was stuffed up from allergies! I had a couple surgical procedures done at the same time and have not had ANY sinus or throat issues since. I have also nearly stopped the snoring, now I just kind of "burble" instead of rattling the windows like a freight train! I am also off the daily allergy meds, only need benadryl when I am exposed to a specific pollen. I really like being able to breath through my nose!
