Being grateful that we can run...

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to volunteer with our local 5k race in collaboration with our town celebration. When we were finished, many posted pictures of the race and I saw a picture where one of the ladies running, had a prosthetic leg. I was humbled by that picture and realized that she was such an admirable person for running that race, which she never quit, complained, or appeared frustrated during it. I later found out she had lost her leg in a Motor vehicle accident and ran 5ks because it proved to herself that she can do anything she sets her mind to accomplish. That point really made me think that no matter what my excuse is for the day, I really have no excuse for not completing my running goal as I am able to run, I just choose not to run and have no one to blame but myself. She was very motivating and such an inspiration to all who were around her with her upbeat, competitive approach to her day. So with that said, last night I was thinking that if we can run, we should, and never give an excuse...I would like to thank this awesome woman for being such a powerful motivation for anyone who thinks they cannot do this, because she just proved you can...

When exercise is tough and i'm having a whiny day I frequently think about this. I think about all the people that would love to be able to run.. the disabled, the chronically ill... I was running one day, having a rough run and a double amputee went by on a recumbent bike. I shut up and took a moment to be grateful that I have a body that lets me push my limits! Great post!
