Hey kids,
First post, please be gentle
Decided to kick my butt into gear just recently - started with a DEXA scan to get an accurate view of my body fat percentage and LBM, and found that I didn't have nearly as much fat to lose as I thought...
I've been sitting at this weight more or less for the past 2yrs - day to day, I eat healthily and have always been fairly active, so it hadn't quite clicked that something needed to change - and more importantly, that I actually had control over making that change.
I look bloody enormous in the first pic (I wish I'd taken side on pics, in hindsight - I didn't realise how round I'd gotten!) but was actually only 26.5% body fat. That's still roughly 26kg of body fat, though, so plenty to shift.
Turns out I have a ridic off the charts LBM.. likely as a result of being heavier for most of my adult life, and needing the muscles to cart the lard around.
eg. 14kg of muscle in each leg at the time of the scan. Like whoa.
Once I had the right numbers, I could really get my head around how much to eat, how much fat to lose, and how to get there.... with the help of the MFP app, of course.
Week 1 - 98.6kg (217lb) and 26.5% BF by DEXA scan
Week 4 - 94.6kg (208lb)
Week 6 - 92.7kg (204lb)
Week 9 - 90.9kg (200lb)
Oh, and I'm 174cm (5ft 8 1/2) tall.
Anyhoo - I'm expecting I'll post something late next week when I have my follow up DEXA scan at the 10 week mark - the goal is to be under 20% body fat by then... will do a little before and after comparison of the numbers (for teh science!).
Beyond that, I want to slowly get myself down to 17% BF... although will "feel it out" a bit to make sure it is right for me.
Until then, here's my lard-*kitten* slowly (quickly?) shrinking in pic form...
