How long does water weight stick around?

Hi! I'm just wondering how long water retention sticks around ? I have gained 3.8 pounds since weighing myself Friday, and I'm nearly positive they aren't fat. Although I did indulge this weekend at a wedding, I also ran 6 miles beforehand, wasn't THAT careless of what I ate and ran 14 miles on saturday - and although I remained within calories saturday I did eat a lot of sodium. Yesterday was a rest day, but I worked and therefore stood/walked all day and was mindful of my food intake to get back on track. But my weight in this morning I still had a big gain.... Just water weight I hope but how long will it stick around? I have been working so hard the last few weeks I was really hoping to see a drop ! Thanks !

In the case of eating maybe a bit more food or sodium i find that it is usually gone in a couple days...but that's for me.
AFter my vacation I was up 4lbs..and I made sure I drank lots of water the following week and it was gone by Friday...well 3lbs of it.0 -
It takes me about 5-6 days for the water weight to go if I go over my sodium by a considerable amount!0
