The Yo-Yo Effect

I joined this site over a year ago and doing my thing by counting carbs, lose some weight. Then I quit, got lazy and went back to old habits. This is my pattern with my TOPS group as well. I hate myself for this, kick myself and when I'm out of control, I just want to quit everything. Then someone in my group will put forth a program, or a challenge that will re-kick-start my motivation and I make up my mind to try and try again. This has been my life's pattern since I had to give up being a jock after I had a double knee replacement and now a hip replacement and live with pain in every joint from arthritis. Don't mean to get on the pitty pot and basically I am a happy person because I find fun things to do no matter where I am in life and now I craft and love it! The moral of this story is, I am glad I DO get back on the bandwagon and try again. This is where I am at now. My good intention is to stick with this. I pray I do. Reason? Not to look hot because at age 75 that doesn't excite me any more. I just want to feel good and be able to move well. What does excite me is that I started TOPS 2 1/2 years ago at 235 lbs. and have been yo-yoing at 215 for quite a while now. Today, after one week back here, I have lost another 8 lbs. To me, that is huge!!! Now, that's not to say it is a FIRM, STABLE loss, as I know how bodies fluctuate losses, but when I can safely say it is stable, that is 28 lbs in 2.5 years. I am truly happy with 10 lbs a year and my goal this year is to get below 200 and feel even better! Not a big accomplishment for you younger folks, but I say, just stick with a plan that works for you and live each day in that plan without projecting too far ahead. Before you know it, you will WOW at your progress, which is YOUR progress, not anyone else's. :flowerforyou: .

I agree with you. I'm doing this slowly and eating the foods I want to eat for the rest of my life. Every time I've restricted myself to low calories or low fat or something else, I've gained weight again because it's not sustainable for life (at least my life). I've now lost 14 lbs since November...low and slow with lots of good food and fun. Never hungry, never w/o energy and enjoying life.
