New Dumbbells

So, I want to get a new, heavier set of dumbbells with an Amazon gift card my cousin gave me recently. I've got 2 pairs of dumbbells at home already (one 0.5kg set and one 1kg set) but want to get a heavier set so I can do some strength and toning exercises at home. I don't have access to my student discount gym anymore as I moved back home over the weekend, but a couple of exercises one of the trainers gave me used 2kg dumbbells (dumbbell raises) and 4kg dumbbells (hammer/bicep curls).
My question is, what weight should I go for my new set - 2kg, 3kg or 4kg?

I just got an awesome adjustable set, the bars themselves are 1.5kg then they have 1.5 and 2.5kg plates so you can go heavier as you get better.
At the moment I'm using the bars without the plates :ohwell:0 -
I've just bought some new weights today. Previously was using 2.25 kg. The new ones have numerous weighs of 1.25 and .5. I have set them to weigh 3.5 kgs. These will give me the scope to put heavier weights on as required.
Personally I am going to be making small weight additions each time. I would go for the 2 or 3, or go for one with assorted weights that you can adjust.0
