How many calories do I really burn?

Everyone says that MFP and machines greatly overestimate your calorie burn.
So, how do you find out how many calories you are actually burning through exercise without an HRM?
I know it will never be exact, but do any sites give a better approximation?
I won't be buying an HRM any time soon. Last time I did, it cost me over $100 and broke after a year. Frankly, money is tight right now, and I'd rather spend it on other things!
Thanks.

Heart rate monitor is the only way to get a reasonable estimate.0

I've read even Hrm aren't always accurate. I would guess the burn rate
here at mfp is 75-80% what is calculates. I believe most ppl
only eat ½ the burned cals back because of this.0
