I have been using MFP since Feburary and have lost 11 pounds. I was pretty consistent with tracking food and exercises for 3 months and then I just let myself go in the last 4 weeks. I have been eating a lot of junk and I want to stop. I also think regular walking is not doing anything for me any more so I want to increase my cardio exercises.
Well Today I want to start over and get serious about being healthy again. I have joined Planet Fitness yesterday but I have never been to any gym regularly before especially alone.. I feel a little nervous.
I want to make it part of my routine. Please give me some tips on how not to feel nervous... Also, silly question but what should I wear to PF? Do they have locker rooms where I can change or should I go wearing my gym clothes.
I want to mainly do cardio for now and eventually start lifting weights. Is Planet fitness really judgement free? I am so nervous because I worry people will look at my flab and I will probably waste $10 every month.
Please someone reassure me. Also, add me as your friend in MFP I need encouragement and I want to see other peopls' progress to motivate myself. Thank you.

Planet Fitness is pretty much designed for the casual gym user so you should be fine. You can wear what you want in there and change in the locker rooms or just wear your workout clothes in. Most of the equipment is pretty obvious and will have any instructions clearly written on the display if needed. In general there is a big start button on the stuff and pushing it will start things. As you get more comfortable you can play with all the little settings but pressing start is almost always a good place to begin.
There will typically be a lot of people that work their walking about and if you have any questions they are going to be pretty happy to help you.
If you just walk right in and step on a treadmill going nice and slow it will give you time to gym watch for a while and get the lay of the land.
On a side note, I probably would not write off walking completely as it really is pretty good for you and not seeing losses probably has more to do with diet than becoming immune to the health benefits of moving your body around. I only mention it because it's hard for me to do an hour in the gym without getting pretty bored while going for a walk, especially to or from somewhere, is normally quite enjoyable.
A lot of people burn out on the gym (often because they workout too often or too hard and just get sore for a while) and if that is the only thing you do then you end up back to doing nothing at all.0 -
I used to be a member at Planet Fitness. It was a pretty decent gym equipment wise. Lots of cardio machines, not a lot of free weights. They do have a locker room with lockers and showers. If you signed up online, there will probably be someone available to walk you through the gym and teach you the machines. Usually there are a couple of free training classes that come with a new membership.
Good luck!0
