Are you sure it was your hips and maybe not your knees? Cracking in knees is very common.
I think I've only heard what sounded to be my pelvis cracking about once in my life0 -
Did it hurt? Then it's a question for your doctor. Anecdotally, I have a friend who can "crack" her hips like another person would crack their knuckles. It's just the way she's built.0

My left hip does this - it's as if the ball is moving out of the hip socket, right (but not as painful as that sounds)?
It worries me a bit sometimes too!0 -
Its the gases being released in the synovial fluid around your joints. At least that what my pilates teacher says. Its a totally normal phenomenon.0

It could be a cavitation, which is just a gas implosion like popping your knuckles. Or snapping hip syndrome. Or ...a lot of things. When I move like that it's usually my sacrum that pops.0

This happens to me a lot too but I've never been able to find a reason for it.. It doesn't hurt its just a very sickening sound!0

Very Good! The cracking noise is called cavitation!
Same thing when you crack your knuckles or if you go to a Chiropractor for an adjustment.0 -

I don't know why... but mine do the same thing, and have for as long as I can remember. All I have to do is raise my leg and pop... usually feels quite good :happy:0 -
depends. if it's uncomfortable get it checked. I know that something around my pelvis on the right side pops and crunches when i lift my leg and it's got something to do with the fact that my pelvis is stuck in an upwards and back position as opposed to being free to move properly. you might want to check with a chiropractor?0
