Wanting to move out of state, but where?!

I have had the itch to leave Maine for quite some time, but now with getting out of a relationship and living with friends, there really isn't anything holding me back (besides the cash at the moment) I am thinking of heading west to California.. I am just not really sure. Any suggestions of fun places to start over in? I like going out and trying new things and having a lot of options!
