Just plain LAZY

So I started my profile on here when I was at 150lbs and wanted to get back to 130lbs. Over a year later and I just hit 190 POUNDS! I just can't seem to keep up with my diary and I HATE working out. I know that if I had just eaten like I should have to begin with I'd be fine, but now I'm to the point where I can't do it without workout. The problem is I can't seem to find the motivation to work out! On top of that I forget to do my diary constantly. My fiancé has begun telling me that I'm just lazy because I have the time and I just don't do it. How can I find the motivation to get off my butt and exercise? I've tried hanging pictures of my old body, I've tried a "reward outfit" in my goal size, I've tried everything! I hate my body and want to lose weight, I just can't seem to stay consistent :( HELP ME!!

Visualize your goal YOU. working out is only 1/2 of the battle, the other, well, it's foods. We are all faced with such difficult decisions - do we want healthy or do we want easy. Picking easy gives us more calories, sodium, fat, and less of what our bodies need. I am doing a book club on Facebook starting June 1st using a motivational book called Push by Chalene Johnson (Turbo Fire, Turbo Jam creator). I've read this book about a dozen times and each time I do it gives me more information on how to stick to my goals and be a better me. Let me know if you want to join me. It will be a great way for you to see how UNLAZY you really are. :)

What motivated me to finally stick to a plan was to try something new. I had not used MFP before, so that was new to me. I also bought a FitBit One and have been using it to keep track of my steps, flights of stairs, etc. It helps that other people in my office also have FitBits, so we get a little bit competitive.

If you hate working out so much, try a different workout. There are SO many different things you can do that there is no need to force yourself to do something you hate. Running, swimming, biking, weights, videos, pure barre, Crossfit, yoga....there are unlimited options. Keep trying new things until you find something you actually enjoy or, at least, can tolerate. Otherwise, you'll never stick to a workout routine.

This try a bunch of different classes or activities. Hopefully one will not feel like WORK. You need to really want it and find what gets you going. If you like game play HabitRPG may be a motivator. If you like massages maybe treat yourself when you hit certain goals like log everything everyday for a month.

I found that rather than focusing on the weight loss I try to focus on how I FEEL after a workout. After a great workout I have energy that will last the whole day, so rather than falling asleep at my desk at 2:30 I can be more productive. I crave that feeling and it usually gives me enough motivation to get to that next work out.

Zumba is terrific, it gets you moving and sweating. As far as forgetting to log food, set alarms and email reminders. Don't eat your next meal without logging your last. You can do it. It is possible. Feel free to add me if you want. Good luck!!

Maybe you're not lazy, just tired. Try easier exercise, instead of "working out." Stamina and strength can be built up gradually.
  • You don't have to exercise to lose weight, lots of people have lost weight without exercising.

Working out will make you healthier, but eating less is the only thing that will make you lighter.

First step, you need to start logging. I know it can be tedious, but it is the first step. Know what you eat, stay within your limits. Then, once you have a hang of that, you try exercise. Walk when you would usually not, get off a bus a stop early and walk the rest if you are in a city...just walk more. Then, only then, consider joining a gym. I know it is hard and I, personally, hate exercise. So I never work out, I just walk to stations and use stairs rather than lifts if I can. But that and counting calories, staying within my goals...it helped :)

And use the board here! The community is a great motivator too :)

    Just start walking.
It's a beautiful thing for your mind and body.
Just start eating a little less than usual and
    enter it here on MFP.
    That's all it takes.
    Oh, and drink water.

Sign up for an event, this has always helped me focus. The fist one I signed up for was a 5km, I did no training, I jog/walked it and was overtaken by people who were much older/younger/more overweight than me, I was the last one to cross the finish line, it really brought it home how unfit I was. I swore I would never do an event without training again because it was so embarrassing. So I signed up for another one, my motivation to train was to never ever be embarrassed of myself or how unfit I was again. It seems to have worked so far. Every time I think 'I really don't want to train today' I think about how I'll feel on race day if I don't and that gets me off my backside and onto my bike/into the lake/out for a run.

Deal with your diet first before you worry about the exercise. You can't out-exercise a bad diet, but you can out-diet a lack of exercise. Obviously it's healthiest to eat well AND exercise, but small steps are better than none.

By "deal with your diet", I mean find a reasonable calorie deficit, buy a food scale (for all solid food) and measuring cups/spoons (for liquids only), and start logging everything (weighed and measured), every single time you eat. It only takes a minute or two and it's way less work than getting your butt in the gym...and hopefully, once you see some results on the scale, you'll be more willing to make the lifestyle changes to get some exercise happening too.

If you can't find the motivation to spend a few seconds looking up your meals and hitting "add", it seems like maybe you don't really want to change. Because it is seriously almost no effort to just log your food, honestly.
