I'm nervous about the before picture.

You can get a measuring tape at Jo-Anns, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and probably at Wal-Mart/Target if they sell any sewing supplies. It's called a tailor's tape.

The other option is called a body tape, and they will have something built in to hold the tape in place.

The reason for the difference is tailor's tape pretty much assumes that you will be measuring other people (and are measuring for clothes, so a tiny extra amount is actually good). Body tape is used for fitness measurements and needs to be tight as possible (and frequently done one handed).

Google both names and you will see images to show you the difference.

Ah Tailor's tape gotcha. I have a Hobby Lobby next to my son's PreK so I will stop by there after work. This is great I'm feeling lots of motivation today

I took my before photo earlier this week. I knew it anyway, but it was still shocking! I won't be posting it for a while... and I need one of those measuring tapes, I only have one of the hard ones you use for walls!

You'll appreciate it in a few months. My laptop crashed taking my starting pics with it. I really wish I had those back.
  • Here's my issue, what if someone sees the picture that I know, knowing me i'd be incredibly EMBARRASSED!!!!!

Everyone I've known who hasn't taken a before pic has regretted it. Let it be your motivation. Ryansmom said it best. You can do it!!!!

You just take it. Then you say, "I'm never going to look like this again!" And you start your new life.....

I still hate my "before" pictures but I'm glad I saved them ...... I often compare them to my "during" pix ......

And someday I'll be able to compare to my "after" pix as well ...... it's all good :drinker:

With feelings of dread, I took my Before picture when I joined MFP. I was embarrassed, disgusted, saddened. 2 months and 15 lbs later I took a During pic and then compared the two. I was amazed and thrilled and so much more motivated. Best of luck to you!

I just had mine taken today & I was not happy with my self, but to actually see myself fully gave me motivation to change.

I did the unthinkable... I stripped down to my skivvies and asked my husband to take it. He really got the chance to see my body because I try to hide it from him as much as possible. I've concluded that he doesn't judge me - I just thought he did. He wasn't any less interested in me that night.

It's all in your head. Just do it. I stared at it, cried, was angry at myself for letting my life derail so much, and felt ashamed because I felt my husband deserved someone who takes better care of herself.

It was a huge motivation for me to change my life.

I ain't doing one. For me, I have this mirror on a dresser behind me and almost every time I get up, I see my disgustingness in full view. Maybe after I lose a little bit, but definitely not taking a photo of my disgusting body now. Nope, not doing it, and nobody can make me. stomps feeties like a 2-year-old.
  • Do it now or you'll regret it! The biggest step was making the choice to start this journey, the hardest part is over!

Honestly my before picture is terrible but I like it because now I can only look better from there. Its motivation for sure because now 50 lbs later I cant even believe its me, I would never want to look like that again. I do get embarrassed by it if im showing someone for the first time but after I here there wow you look great now im all smiles and proud of my hard work. I suggest everyone take a before picture it will help you in the long run, its easy to forget how far youve come. Some days since im still over weight I will think im so fat how have I even lost weight im still so fat but then I look at the picture and it reminds me how far ive come and I think one day ill look at myself now and say im come so far from there too. Its one day at a time.
