Help getting started and breaking plateaus

Hey guys, been on MFP for awhile but definitely interested in becoming more active on here. I am a college student and have spent the last 6-7 months really educating myself on training, dieting and supplementing. It is amazing what applying real information can do to your body. When you realize how simple it is to control your physique, it can really help your outlook on all aspects of life. Not easy, but simple. My main goal on here is to help as many people as possible with any of their fitness needs, especially getting started, breaking plateaus, dispelling myths, etc. I promise only to provide information I can back up with science and furthermore by experience. So please feel free, add me, message me, come to me with any questions and I will do everything I can to help.

Which equation is the most accurate for estimating BMR?

any of the online calculators can give you a decent estimate and a fair starting point. But again, BMR is a helpful ESTIMATE and STARTING POINT. If you have an average metabolism, then finding your BMR can give you a good perspective, and you can adjust your macros accordingly based on your activity level. However, the BMR only represents the average for someone of your same height, weight and age. Some of us burn calories more or less efficiently than others, and this makes BMR only helpful as a very basic guideline. IIFYM uses BMR to help configure macros. This is why IIFYM's calculations are a good starting point, but usually need at least some minor adjustments to allow for optimal muscle gain or fat loss.
