i'm trying to estimate how many calories i lost on the elliptical, it says 600 but it seems high
i just watched a movie for 2 hours and didnt really break a sweat, i had the resistance on 1 for an "easy workout" today
im 5'1' and 142 pounds

what would be a closer estimate? maybe like 400 calories?

thanks!

It as in the machine? Invest in a heart rate monitor.

yep the elliptical machine said 600
i dont want to wear a heart rate monitor while exercising it seems like it would be a hassle to wear it, i havent ever seen anyone wearing it at the gym and dont want to be the only one to wear it
i dont really need to track it that accurately, an estimate is enough but it just seems so high

Exactly. Although the machines do their best to be accurate, it still calculates the same way if you slow down your pace. I will say, however, that depending on age, it's the heart rate that matters. You might be used to that level of workout, so breaking a sweat is more difficult.

You're not going to get accurate calorie burns off the machine and anything else is a WAG. Who cares what anyone else at the gym thinks of what your wearing? There are heart rate monitors that go under your shirt and nobody can even tell it's there. I guarantee you people wear them you just don't see them and don't know.
