I want to get some dumbbells and a aerobic step to add to my workout. I'm not sure what weight I should start with? I saw a set of 3,5 & 8lb at walmart for $35. I can't use a bar weights because I have a plate on my collarbone so I can't lift really heavy or over my head.

I recommend any metal ones with a tempered grip to avoid slipping. If you want to get something that can be increase as you progress by spending more money for startup I recommend getting a set of Bowflex SelectTech 552 which can be found just about anywhere.

i bought one, and plan on buying another soon. It's nice because they can go from 5lbs to 52.lbs and can be adjusted accordingly. They're a little pricey, but they save a lot of space are great for anyone who doens't need a dumbbell that's over 50lbs.

Look around for prices or check ebay for used ones, as you'll get the best deal that way

This seems the best bet for new: $299 for a pair. I bought one for around that price a few years ago and have no complaints

I saw those. They are a little out of my price range right now. My washer died so had to get a new one

Ah okay, if this is a bit better for the short term, Weider makes 12.5 lb adjustable dumbbells for about 60 bucks

If money is an issue, have you considered naturally occurring "aerobic steps" around you? Do you have staircase in your house or to your basement? Is there a park nearby? Some park walls and benches can be used as an aerobic step.

Perhaps save the money and don't waste it on the dinky weights. If you need weights that low, use a gallon and/or half gallon milk jug. A gallon of water weighs 8lbs. If you can't lift that in your workout, then use half gallon, etc. and fill up as you get stronger. Then, by the time you get to where the full gallon is too easy, you can have saved enough money to get a good set like the Bowflex one (and get a new washer). If you find that 8lbs is too easy to start with, then you didn't waste $35 on dumbbells you'll never use.

Yeah, this too. Parkour type stuff is awesome.

I have a ton of weights, but my favorite pieces by far are dumbbell handles and plates. This set is pretty cheap at Wally World:

    2 x steel dumbbell bars
    4 x 7.5 lb plates
    4 x 2.5 lb plates
    4 x dumbbell collars

I was just looking at 20lb adjustable wrist/ankle weights. Think these might do it for a month till I can get a nice set of dumbbells?

Most trainers don't recommend using ankle & wrist weights. I'd get the set that "dbrieck" posted and follow a good strength program.

I started googling resistance bands . I found some sets at Walmart and went to the manufactures website and got a set for $32.99 and free shipping and no tax. I think this will do for a month or so till I can get the bow flex weights I really want
