Metabolism speeds, fact or fiction?

Hi, so I always hear things about how to boost your metabolism. Not to mention, this article right here I was linked to today:
http://ultrafactspictures.com/15-ways-to-boost-your-metabolism?
I have also heard that metabolism-boosting is a weight loss myth and has no relation to how many calories you burn. Researching it myself it seems like having a "fast metabolism" just means that your body is faster at converting food into energy.
When they talk about "boosting", are they maybe referring to your BMR? Wouldn't getting fit through exercise, eating right, and increasing muscle mass by default increase BMR, and thus all these "boosting" tips are just weight loss tips?
Sorry if I sound confused or jumbled, because I am!

Some foods do have a higher thermogenic quality to them, meaning the body uses more energy to digest them, but in the grand scheme of it all- the best way to "boost your metabolism" is to build muscle, which in turn increases your BMR allowing you to intake more nutrients. If those added calories are helping the muscle to rebuild and repair the energy will be taken from fat stores and eventually resulting in fat loss. While the specific "boosting tips" shown in that article are more weight loss centered, any metabolism talk is really just helping your body to function efficiently.0

Thanks! I'm happy to see that the overall obsession with your metabolism is worthless. It makes weight loss and calorie considerations a lot easier for me.0 -
There is an adaptive component to metabolism, but eating this food or that food isn't going to play much role.
Chronic energy states, either a deficit or surplus, will cause metabolic adaptation up or down. Strength training will cause an apparent increase in your metabolism. Muscle built plays very little role (but the calorie surplus needed to build that muscle plays a very big role).
