Day 1 of MFP!

Options
Hi, I am on day one, again, and just finished looking through the app. I have a hard time with food selection. I eat the same stuff everyday and I think that is why I have not been very successful when trying to lose weight. I also want to ask for help/input on getting the most out of MFP. I seem to not know how to use things correctly so I give up. Any and all advice is appreciated!!

Welcome! And feel free to add me as a friend. I used this program extensively last year, and am just getting back at it this year. It works! Logging daily and having support does wonders.

I am on day 1 and have put on a hideous photo of myself to remind me how much weight I need to lose. This was taken a few months ago in Egypt. After walking up my stairs to bed last night and finding myself out of breath I decided enough was enough. Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I WILL lose the weight and wear the lovely clothes in my wardrobe with the labels still attached!

    Welcome!

You can definitely eat the same thing every day and lose weight. You just have to eat less than you expend in your daily activity. You could eat fast food hamburgers and fries for every meal and lose weight, as long as you eat less than you expend--though I wouldn't recommend it, because you'd feel like crap.

It's simple to day, but hard to do. Here are a few key things to read:

After those, take a look at some of the posts linked here:

    Good luck!

Welcome. I've used MFP before, but I never stick with it because I find some days I just don't have time to login all the info. Secondly, why does MFP say I should eat 1200 calories a day? I'm a small person to begin with 5'1" and weigh 116, which is about 10 pounds over my ideal weight. I have a closet full of clothes, especially pants that I can't wear. I want to lose 10 pounds so I can wear my clothes again. If I follow the recommended calories and do an hour of walking or low impact aerobics, the calculator says I will lose only 0.1 pound a week. At that rate, it will take me forever to lose 10 pounds. I don't have time to exercise more than an hour a day. Can I eat less?

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have gained 25 pounds this last year and a half and am so fed up. I have some amazing clothes that are stylish and cute and I can't wear them. This is Day 3 for me, thanks for the words of encouragement!

If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal

you got this. Sounds like me. I decided to do something about myself when i had to rest at the top of the steps after carrying a laundry basket up.

my advice would be - pre-log... if you log at the end of the day and find you ar eover cals and your macros are rubbish then what can you do about it? nothing! plan your day and prelog it so you hit your targets.

other than that, you need patience and consistancy and some exercise you enjoy. good luck!
