Have to agree with this! A healthly balanced diet and exercise is all you need! Its very sad that the people who came up with these plans are making a fortune by sucking people in and convincing them that this is healthy and sustainable!

Interesting article. I notice all the embedded links go to preventdisease.com. I know nothing about the validity of that site (but at least they do have lists of sources at the end of their articles).
I did wonder what exactly is an "advanced nutrition specialist". Not being snarky, just wondering what it means. I know what a "board-certified cardiologist" is (because I work with them) so if someone writes that instead of the official designation and certifying body, I still understand.
I think meal replacements/protein shakes still have a place in a diet, but shouldn't be relied on to do all the work. It's a good way to get a meal or snack when time is very limited or portability without refrigeration is a must. In the morning I'm running in circles and need something post workout that I can make and eat in about 5 minutes before I jump in the shower. So I have my shake (I also can't really eat real food early in the morning, tummy gets upset, liquid is best). Someone keeping a small container holding pre-measured shake powder in their brief case or backpack is making it much easier for them to deal with sudden hunger or lack of a packed lunch without buying chips or a Big Mac.0 -
Yeah I think "shakes" are just the current tactic for tricking chubby people into thinking they can pay money for a delicious something that will make them skinny.
When that term goes out of style I expect "Diet Cakes" to become the next big thing followed by "Thermogenic Ice Cream".
Everybody wants some sort of shortcut, especially if it means they can keep enjoying shakes, cakes and ice cream while they lose weight.
Seems sad that a national weight epidemic is dealt with by simply trying to make as much money as possible off people rather than genuine desire to help folks live a long healthy life.0 -
