Healing after 4 neck/mouth surgeries in 4 months

Hello everyone,

Before I went out for surgery in June I was in good shape. I was walking at least 3 miles though out the day at a very brisk pace and also working out for 45 min to an hour every morning. The initial surgery I had was supposed to be a simple out patient surgery to remove a cyst that was thought to be a type of thyroid cyst. Well the doctor was wrong and it was a clogged saliva gland instead and since he went through my neck initially he had to cut through the floor of my mouth also.

Anyways long story short the first doctor did 2 surgeries to try to "fix" what went wrong but couldn't so he sent me to another doctor who was able to repair everything but that happened in another 2 surgeries. With the last surgery I ended up with a DVT in my leg. The pain from that is gone now and I have the ok to begin walking and exercising.

I started taking 2 brisk walks a day ... estimating about 1 mile each walk ... but because I am still hurting so bad in my mouth and neck I haven't been able to do much more. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be able to do? Watching what I'm eating is working for me to not gain weight but I'm not losing or toning so I'm getting a bit discouraged. Any suggestions would be wonderful!!

Thanks,
Eva

I am so sorry that it is so physically hard for you. You have really been through the ringer. I don't have a lot of advice to offer, but to say do the best you can, and don't be so hard on yourself.

I was wondering where you went. I'm glad you're back on track. You know that most of your weight loss is going to come from watching what you eat. Walking even 1mile is goin to help continue building muscle for that toned look we all want . Give yourself time to recover and you'll be back full speed ahead I'm sure
  • Thanks everyone! I am back on track with the morning routines FINALLY!! Although I was disappointed that I could only do 3 miles of my 5 mile walking video it was still REALLY good to finally be working out!! This week I will continue on and workout in the mornings before work and still walk 2-3 times during the day.

I miss posting here and reading what everyone has to say! This has been such a great tool in helping me to get to my goals!! I'm just hoping that I stay ON track and keep moving forward!! I was glad that I didn't gain back any weight!! Glad that at least watching what I ate worked!! :o)

    Thanks again everyone!!!
