How do you know if you are losing LBS of fat or water?

Sometimes I'll lose 1-4lbs when trying to exercise, eat clean etc. but notice that I can drink a soda, eat rice or not drink a glass of water and baloon! So how do you know when you step on the scale or measure yourself, because I measure more then I weigh that you are losing fat and not just water weight. As a woman this is very discouraging.

look at trends. water weight may fluctuate but if you take your average weight for each week and use that instead of daily weights itll give you a much better perspective

Visually, tracking with progress photos and measurements.

Like the poster above me, trends as well. I log once a day so I can see how high/low my weight goes each day, and it helps me track an average for the week.
  • Thanks I never thought about looking at average weight! This is helpful guys' thanks!

I'm consistent about how/when I get on the scale, and I watch for results over time. Its not about what happens in one day or even one week: but long term.
