I have always struggled with my weight as many do but finally decided that hitting a max, getting high blood pressure and having possible complications in a job that I love made me turn to an extreme measure. I fell at the end of March and had to have microsurgery done to my knee. Unfortunately I had to fight to gain my compensation resulting in a six month wait of depression and immobility. There is not much else to do except eat and blend into the furniture. 50 some odd pounds later, on top of an already ample form, I found my health giving me a wake up call. People around me, look to me, to inspire them and now I had to take responsibility for my current state. I am still in Physical therapy and only working a secondary job until I can get a clean bill of health to go back to my primary job. Somehow I wanted more then what therapy offered and joined a gym (with applause from my doctor) that I look forward to going to. Almost felt 20 years younger. As I spoke with a life long friend, he told me of this great site for extra encouragement where we could support each other over 1300 mi away. I am really excited as I have read over several posts and feel like I am home.

I had two knee surgeries at 24 (due to a tibial plateau fracture). I also didn't walk for almost 6 months. However, it's been almost 6 years and I am healthier than ever. It is possible to recover from knee surgery. Take as much physical therapy as they'll give you. I did about a year and my therapist would have me come in 30 minutes early to do the bike before she would work with me. I still have pain at times, but the knee surgery eventually led me to become even healthier and not take "health" and "wellness" for granted.

You just have to keep on moving forward (physically and emotionally)!!!

Welcome!!! This is a great site and full of motivation. One of my goals is to either get off my BP meds and diabetic meds entirely (I hope!!!) or at least lower the dosage. I think the best motto is 'one day at a time'. You will do great!
