Is this too much of a splurge/binge?

I love my wife, but dude, she made a special dessert for tonight...that has almost 1600 calories in one serving. That's right ONE SERVING, and that's before her homemade whipped cream. I feel a little like crying. My daily goal is 1750. So once I figure in my normal 300 calorie breakfast, 400 calorie lunch, and 700 calorie dinner, I'm at 3000 calories for the day. I earned enough back in exercise to cover all but 400 calories (busted my butt doing 2 hours of weight training and plyometrics). Should I just be okay with it since I *never* eat back my calories (this week I earned about 3400 exercise calories and ate about 200 of them). I'm seriously stressing over this, but I don't want to hurt her feelings, because she made it especially for me. It's bread pudding, my favourite

You should eat some exercise calories, so by all means eat the pudding.0

How long have you been at this and how much have you lost? If you're losing weight at a reasonable rate, you will get right back in the saddle tomorrow, and won't beat yourself up over it, then enjoy the dessert. There's also nothing wrong with having a 1/3 or 1/2 portion either.0

It's your favorite and your wife made it for you (with love)!! You should definitely enjoy some. You don't have to eat the entire serving. You could eat half a serving and save the other half for later. However if you do eat the whole serving that's also fine. Life is short. Indulge once in a while, especially for special treats like this. I promise nothing will happen to your weight/body from one day...that goes for eating too little, eating too much, AND eating just enough.0
-
Absolutely! No worries. Just stick to one serving, track it and forget it.0
-
^what she said. Life is short. You exercised to cover for most of it. She made it specially for you. Just eat it.0

Send the dessert to me. Problem solved.0

No way I'd pass up homemade bread pudding. Not for anything. Plus you don't want to hurt her feelings right? One day won't affect much.0
-
You could eat half today and half tomorrow. I would eat it =3 its really nice of her to make that for you, don't hurt her feelings.0

what was the dessert?0

Can you post the recipe? 1600 cals per serving? :huh:0

1600 calories in one serving of bread pudding? Are you sure? That seems out if control unless the serving size is totally enormous. In which case you could eat half maybe. I would double check that though.0

Calories seem way off. Not counting the whipped cream I think it should be under 500 (way under). There is a recipe on Allrecipes.com for 160 and another for 350 for example.0

Yum... It could be 1600 calories if it was big enough. Also, if she adds extra egg yolks and uses heavy cream, whipping cream, or chocolate milk! Also, is there other goodies inside? I'm thinking chocolate chunks. Also... what kind of bread? I've made it with stale croissants before--- SO GOOD. For sure there are some delicious and extremely high calorie versions of bread pudding! Would love to hear how to make this one!0 -
I honestly dont think it would be that many calories, but like you said youve done alot of exercise so your in the deficit to eat it and you shouldnt be effected, enjoy it, you only live once and its your favorite! By avoiding foods you enjoy your going to make yourself really unhappy0

She sort of took bits and pieces from a few different recipes, but I'll do my best to give an accurate representation of it. There are three servings. They're in individually sized spring form pans, I think about 4". I agree that it seems way, way too much, but there's a lot of butter, eggs, and heavy cream, so I guess that's how it is:
The bread part (all but two slices, but I didn't know how to estimate it because she and our son had already eaten them by the time I saw it, so I don't know how big they were, and she'd already cut the rest of the loaf into small chunks):
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cups (295 ml) milk
1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups (315 grams) all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon table salt (see Note)
2 teaspoons (10 grams) baking powder
1 to 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (Bill calls for 2 but I preferred 1, so that it didn’t dominate)
1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
5 ounces (140 grams) sweetened flaked coconut (about 1 1/2 cups)
6 tablespoons (85 grams) unsalted butter, melted or melted and browned, if desired
Vegetable oil or nonstick cooking spray for baking pan
the sauce (only used half of it):
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
1 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
6 large egg yolks
1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons agave syrup
1 cup pureed mango
2 tablespoons bourbon0 -

She's going to bake them once she wakes up. We're going to catch up on the end of Season 2 of Hannibal tonight, so she was trying to recreate one of the recipes from the show (she's really, really into it) and she picked this one because I love bread pudding.0 -
What did she do with the bread pudding ? It is also my favorite dessert and I had a helping ( one eights of a large rectangular baking pan ) almost every day on my recent three week vacation. It was made with butter, cream, nuts and dried fruit and served with whipped cream and was about 345 calories and I was able to fit it in my 1200 calorie ( because I am old and under five feet tall) allowance plus some of my exercise calories.
PS: I should have read to the end of the thread to the recipe. Also, where in season two did Hannibal serve bread pudding ? Did I miss something ? I watched all shows ( yes we get it even here in Mexico ! ) and I never saw any baked goods ....does not quite fit into the cannibalistic food themes of the show ...I think.0 -
It's from episode 7 of the first season, actually, Fromage. The woman who makes the food for the show has a blog: http://janicepoonart.blogspot.com/2013/05/ep-7-fromage-paella-on-rocks.html0

You'll be fine.0

I allow myself one cheat meal a week. Today I had a steak and mashed potatoes and even FroYo after. Life is short. Eat tonight and back on track tomorrow. Little cheats help keep you sane It's not about all or nothing 100%, it's about positive sustainable changes!0

A seafood restaurant near here makes bread pudding with KRISPY KREME DONUTS.
OMG, that shiz is amazing.
But I make my friend order it and just have few bites of hers. :devil:0 -
Binge eating is not merely eating more than planned/than you would like to. It's eating for emotional reasons as opposed to physiological reasons, to cope with your life/situations/emotions/etc.
That is excessive, but you'll be fine as long as it isn't daily.0 -
It's one day and a special day at that. It is fine. Just don't make it a habit. Special days must factor into your new lifestyle...0
-
Eat it. This is life. Welcome Unless you plan to NEVER ever eat your favorite dessert again It is not bingeing if you just eat it and enjoy it - just don't purge!0
