Has exercise has stopped my period!?

Hi,
I'm in recovery week of Insanity and my period is... 11 days late!? After 6 days I thought it was going to happen but it just didn't.
So why is this a problem? Well we've been trying to conceive since January and now I don't even know what is happening?!
I went to the doctor and he did a test which ruled out pregnancy. I asked to be referred but he said we haven't been trying long enough for them to think we need a referral and that we should just keep trying. (good old Uk NHS)
It didn't really occur to me to tell him about my exercising as I thought I was doing my body a favour. I have since read that exercise can stop you ovulating. Hardly ideal when T.T.C!
I've never completed a full exercise program (have always been a lazy cow) I've really enjoyed Insanity and am looking forward to.month 2... But now I'm torn!
It doesn't seem right that I should give up/ cut down workouts to increase chances of getting pregnant!
I'm not underweight (5'6" 140lbs) and pretty much always (ashamedly) go over my calories so I'm not certainly not malnourished, I was just wondering if
1. this is normal? has anyone experienced similar and if so how did you overcome it?
2. If I change from cardio to lifting would my body relax and start ovulating again?
Please help this is verryyyy frustrating!
Thank you
