Upping my protein intake

Hello MFPs, I've lost 30lbs since February by just counting calories and doing cardio 5 times a week.

I've switched up my exercise routine now to include strength exercises, attempting to tone and bulk up a little.
I heard that I need to up my protein level now that I'm building muscles and many people use protein shakes which is a new territory for me.

I'm going to a Brazilian restaurant with all you can eat meat next week which should give me enough protein to last a week ^_^

Anybody have advice about good protein shakes to use and when to take them?

I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey, and I usually drink my shake within 30 min of my workout. I'm not bulking or lifting heavy in the traditional sense so it probably doesn't matter for me in terms of the muscles needing the protein, but it tastes like a yummy milkshake, and after pushing myself hard I deserve a yummy milkshake. I just mix mine with milk.

There are other types of protein that might be better for someone in a bulk (casein, I think), but I can only use whey at the moment so I can't weigh in on the other types.

Thanks for your input. Too many of them to try to even do a research.
This is the first time I attempt to do strength exercises and I'm not looking to be a body builder by any means.

Do you find that you have more energy during your workout after having the protein shake?
