Reducing calories as you lose weight

I've lost 14lbs so far (at a pace of 1.5-2lbs per week) and today MFP suggested I drop my calories down from 1500 to 1380. I decided not to; I figure if I'm losing steadily on 1500 at this point then I'm not really inclined to cut back any further. I figure I'll reevaluate further down the line when I've lost a more significant amount of weight (or if I stop losing).

Is this a good way to go about things? Last time I lost a chunk of weight about 5 years ago, I wasn't counting calories and I never really cut back, even as I got smaller, and I never plateaued.

I would recommend following the suggestion; the goals mfp has set for you have worked so far so it makes sense that you should keep it up. You will need fewer calories as you lose weight, so if you find yourself stalling with the same diet you'll have to make adjustments.

I adjust mine every ten pounds, but I'm close to my recommended body weight.

It will just decrease your deficit and slow down your weight loss.

For what it's worth, I've been eating the same since I started (more now really), I just increased my activity as I lost weight to keep my 1600+ calories.

The closer you are to your goal, MFP will automatically drop you down. I was dropped down after my first 10lbs.
Echoing what Francl27 said above. If you want to stay at your current cals, you could always just up your exercise a bit to net a smaller amount, but still eat the same calories now.
