SO CONFUSED about cooked vs raw meat calories

i know its been said before but i can't get a straight answer from any other threads...

today i tried to make turkey burgers from ground turkey, it was Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey 85% lean 15% fat (I didn't buy it my mom did, I wouldn't use this stuff because I hate the taste of ground meat in general) and it says 240 cals per 4 oz serving!

UM WHAT? Is that a yield after cooking? I sure as hell hope so, cause thats a lot of calories for 4 oz of meat that would totally shrink when grilled and then be an unsatisfying hunk of sadness.

but to my knowledge, this is a raw measurement and they mean 4 oz uncooked. but, online, i see the same product (Shady Brook) clocked in for like 120 per 4 oz...so did they just change the label to represent yield after cooking for 240 cals or did my mom just buy super fatty gross ground meat? I ended up eating chicken because for 5 whole oz cooked i can get 230 cals! So why taste something like ground meat if i don't like it and it's really no better than my lean chicken breast...

anyone know about the label nonsense?

The packet will generally have the raw calories, as they don't know how you will cook it and how long it's cooked changes the calories per weight. 85/15 is pretty high fat ground meat, so I wouldn't be totally shocked if the packet is correct.

I believe it, my 90/10 burgers of ground beef are 200 calories for 4 oz. 240 sounds about right for 85/15.

damn. she really screwed me with that one. i asked her to get the 99% lean and she whined and said "But it's so dry!"

Well...too bad, Mom. That's not what I asked for and I'm not pumping fatty meat that tastes like cafeteria sausage into my body if i don't want to. Oh well, guess I'll have my yummy chicken breast tomorrow, too!
