trick or treat leftovers...

so what do you plan on doing with your leftover candies? it's after trick or treat time and you have candy left over...do you eat it? put it in the freezer for "one piece a day"? do you pray it doesn't eat you first?

you have to plan.

here's my suggestion. get together with all your neighbors and collect all the leftovers. then have someone with a chocolate allergy/dislike for candy/lots of will power store the candy for the next day or so. do NOT be the one to store the candy!!!

then on Monday call a local agency and arrange to deliver the leftovers. need some ideas: a local orphanage/childrens shelter; a local men's shelter for drug and alcohol rehab; a homeless ministry; battered ladies shelter. there are MANY organizations that don't get treats during holidays. i'm sure they would love to receive some goodies.

do whatever it takes to get the candy out of your home. plan. take action. for your health and to brighten someone's day.

cheering everyone on to a healthier lifestyle.

I'm taking them to my brother's place. He and the rest of his buddies consume massive amounts of food when they are done working out. That's where I drop off all my extra pies, cake, brownies etc. so I don't eat them all. I feel bad but they think I am the greatest.

If I have any good leftovers I'll take them to work - they go fast there. Luckily my kids like the same candy bars I do - odds are nothing too good will last that long
  • I like your early planning for this.

I am actually a real party pooper and I dont feel right about giving up the candy but giving it out to someone else to be unhealthy. I know the kids will get enough candy and as a teacher I feel that I am justified a bit for this.

I found these little snack bags of pretzels at the store that are packaged for halloween. I bought these and I have little bags with halloween pencils, erasers, stickers, and a toy. This is what I gave out at the Head Start to the kids in the classes I was in and this is what the kids who come to my door will get. I figure that it is something that I feel better about addin to their bag rather than candy.

Most of the kids that I gave them to were really excited and most of them ate the pretzels soon after they got them, between candy of course, but at least it was a little something different.

I figure that if I have extra of these, I will feel perfectly fine snacking on a few of them.

This is my solution, but I am new to this new eating plan and habit, so I really do not want to have extra candy laying around while I am studying and waiting for children. I was good about resisting during the parties at work, but not to sure how I would do at home.

Thanks for your ideas though, it is something that is best to think about before it happens.
