Using a Digital Food Scale

So, I really don't comprehend math too well, but am looking to purchase a digital food scale. My question is, when something says, X cups, or X oz, how would I measure that? I am assuming that the food scales weigh in grams, but of course, I may be wrong. I dont want to spend a ton of money on a scale, but I do need this simplified for me. Thanks!

Try to find the entries that are in grams (or ounces) - most scale swill weigh both. Keep an eye out for database entries that do NOT have the asterix beside them. These almost always have a grams option

I find it helpful to use a metric calculator (google it) and it will covert grams/ounces to cups, etc. for those entries that only have cups, etc. as measurements. For example, if I eat X grams of a certain food, but MFP only has the option of "1 cup", then I use the metric calculator, type in X grams, and it tells me that I ate .761 cups, or something like that. Here is the one that I use:

My food scale (bought at Walmart for around $25) weighs in oz, grams, pounds, and kg.

ETA: Measuring in cups is only accurate for liquids. If it's a solid - it needs to be weighed. People logging 1 cup of chicken, or cheese, or eggs will not get an accurate measure and over time will add a lot of extra (unlogged) calories to their day.
  • Thanks everyone! I knew there was a simple solution!
