Shoes

Hey Everyone,
So, I have lost 46lbs now and I am noticing that my shoes are getting looser (I have wide running shoes I got from McCulloughs) I have set a goal that when I reach 280lbs (6.5lbs to go) that I will reward myself with a new pair of workout shoes. I was looking at the Nike Frees online and I love how I can customize them to my style but I am wondering if it is worth it to spend $130 on shoes that I might need to replace in 40 more pounds? Can anyone help me out here and maybe suggest some other great shoes that are not so pricey? I would be using them to walk on the treadmill at the gym and then to go walking through the park with my mom on the weekends.

I got fitted for running shoes at my local running store and spent under $120. Mine are New Balance.

Seems to me that just about any workout shoe would be okay for walking, as long as you aren't having any pain.

Maybe you should look at a local store before you order any online?
  • I think it would be fine - the general suggestion is to replace them every 6 months, depending on how often you run.

Outside of performance running shoes, I dont think theres a need to spend as much as that.
Ive walked in cross trainers, running shoes, basketball shoes - as long as they are comfortable, its all good.
Shop on sale and you can get a good technology shoe at a way better price
My current gym shoes are Nike free trainer 5.0 and New Balance 690. Both are fine

There's a lot of rules of thumb about replacing shoes. Runners are advised every 4 to 6 months or 300 to 500 miles. Since you are going to be walking in your new shoes, they made need to be replaced about the time they feel like they're getting loose again, anyways.

I would recommend going to a running store and getting fitted for shoes, especially the Free. There is the 3.0 and the 5.0 which are different and you can mix and match the upper and sole so you want to make sure it all feels right before you buy.

I sure hope my feet get narrower! I'm a 6.5 EE. The only thing that fits is Birkenstocks.
