Celebrating my birthday

One more year in the books. But what a year it's been. Birthdays are typically when one looks back at the past year and makes resolutions for the coming year.

On June 2nd 2013, there's no way I saw this coming. Yes, I've resolved to lose weight many times in my life and even lost some several times. Last year, it wasn't even on my radar. For some reason, I never was able to pinpoint the exact trigger, I decided once again to get serious about my weight. The difference this time was a general commitment to change my lifestyle. My first steps were actually not food related but rather exercise. I didn't go to a gym or lift weights. On October 20th 2013, I had a meeting about 2 miles from my house and made the decision to walk rather than take the car. I've never done anything like that. That same day, I made some changes to my meals and started reading a lot. I read many success stories and looked for the common denominatory. I found that almost everyone that was succesfull in losing and keeping it off, didn't follow any specific diets. Just watched what and how much they ate and started moving more.

Over the next 7 months (and counting), I started walking daily, then some running, then lots of running and most recently biking. I do one of these almost daily.

Today, 96 pounds lighter, I celebrate all the changes in my life. Some of them are pretty major and some not so much. The smaller ones are sometimes more important to mention because they might not be so obvious.

Here are those that come to mind:
96 pounds lighter
Much more energy
Spend more hours of the day doing things I enjoy (rather than sitting at a computer)
Easier to shop (much easier)
Look better
Increased self confidence
No more fear of pictures (still don't love them :) )
Probably most important, the admiration of my wife and kids for doing this
Fun (running, biking, etc.)
Stress relief (nothing clears your mind like a good run)

I can probably list a few more.

So, thanks to all of you here at MFP (those that built it as well as all my MFP friends).

Looking forward to the next year of reaching my goal and maintaining it.
