I haven't heard of that, but if you find out what your maintenance calories are and eat under that, you will lose weight. Make sure you track accurately. That way instead of jumping head first into a new diet and restrict yourself, you can do it the easy way and have longer lasting results.
Edit: I googled it. It looks like a healthy plan. Go for it!0 -
Hi- Good choice! I am on a plant based diet, and they are very much the same. I just do not eat fish or meat. Google Mediterranean Diet and you should find some awesome sites dedicated to helping people with the diet.0

The Mediterranean diet isn't something to lose weight. It's exactly what it says: the diet of what many in the Mediterranean eat.
Figure out your TDEE. Subtract 20%. Eat that.
Then if you wish to incorporate foods of the typical Mediterranean diet, eat leafy greens, fish, nuts, olive oil, etc.0 -
A very healthy way to approach eating! The South Beach Diet is based on it, if that helps at all. But yes, as the other poster said, if you google it, you'll find a lot of info. Consider it an approach to eating, rather than a set of rules.0

Google it and you have enough information to study to fill your free time for a month or more.....
I have lived almost most of my life according to that diet ( since way before it became fashionable about 30 years ago ) and never had high cholesterol, high BP or anything else....of course it helps that I really, really like to eat that way. Btw: the Mediterranean diet is part of a lifestyle and a way of life and as such is no better or worse than any other diet for weight loss....it is however great for general health !0 -

First paragraph, olive oil and wine....sounds legit. Plus can't stop thinking of Daphne's right now so...yeah sounds like a PLAN!
Also keep in mind Sabine's suggestions to not get all "rules" ish on it but use it judiciously.0 -
MY doctor has recommend the same "diet" this is NOT about calorie reduction it's about food (nutritional) sourcing... eat like a Greek, or an Italian, or a Spaniard, or a Frenchman, or Turk, Libyan, Egyptian, Moroccan, or last but not least... Algerian...
fantastic food flavours... AND easy to cook... eat these foods at a caloric deficit.. and become healthy and happy0 -
Hi,
I'm actually mediterranean. I grew up really healthy, until I came to study in the US, where I gained more than 50lbs during college. It's one of the healthiest diets. Although, we tend to overdo it with olive oil sometimes, we eat lots of different veggies, plain/greek yogurt, fish (lots of fish), not a fan of red meat, but we do tend to have abt once or twice a month. Ditch the white bread. Fruit are a must. During summer, my mother buys a huuuge watermelon and we eat it during the day. It's the best snack after a workout.
My favorite recipe for summer is:
Yogurt with cucumbers (+1tbsp of olive oil and chopped garlic)
It's low in cals and refreshing.
Google mediterranean recipes as they tend to be calorie friendly.0 -
Hi there,
I'm Spanish and follow it (most of the time!) . It is not a diet to lose weight but to eat balanced and healthy.
Have a look at this link. http://dietamediterranea.com/en/piramide/
I hope it helps.0 -
Delicious food. Great places to visit, too.
In my opinion, the weight loss from this diet stems from portion control. These guys don't normally supersize their lamb skewer (for example). They eat a moderate amount. When they can, they eat consciously, at a table, enjoying the company and not just gorging themselves with XL fries and a bucket of fried chicken.0 -
Hi, I've lived in Italy for 29 years and we all eat the mediterranean diet. Good, healthy eating is just part of the culture here, nothing is restricted, but the ingredients are genuine and healthy. Many foods are designated DOP--or controled at their origins. Alot of cooking from scratch and the order and mixing of foods during a meal are important. In our family, for example, I make carbs--pasta or risotto--for lunch and make a protein for dinner. Vegetables and fruits are always on the table. Portions are controled. The food has to be high quality. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them. Best.0
