Which heart rate monitor?

I would like to purchase a heart rate monitor but don't want to spend a fortune. I just want to track how many calories Ai burn on some things I do that aren't always easy to find on the MFP database.
I have seen some on ebay go selling for £5-6 , are those watch type ones sufficient for my needs? I am not training for a marathon or anything just a mum wanting to stay fit and healthy.

Check out this blog - it outlines what you want in a HRM and also how they work.

Keep in mind the calorie estimation algorithms used by the HRM are based on steady state cardio activity. Outside of that they become less accurate. Depending on what exactly you are planning to use it for it may not be useful at all.0
