Haters - You Don't Have Them
Replies
-
I have seen a lot of people mentioning haters in threads.
"You are all a bunch of haters! or "Ignore the haters!"
But I'm not seeing much hate. Most of the time, it seems to me me, these declarers of hate are doing something clearly wrong or dangerous, or just being a complete jerk, and when someone points that out, defensiveness sets in and cries of hater erupt.
Here's the truth. People generally don't know or care enough about you to hate you. They are just reacting to your poor behavior.
Calling them haters is a sign of incredible immaturity and a lack of self awareness.
If you think you've got haters, you've most likely gone horribly wrong somewhere in life. Take a step back and rethink what you're doing.
But people care enough to hate an idea and write wall of text against it.
Really? That's weird because I can't find anywhere in his post where he states HE hates anything.
I was just saying generally...unless....OP meant something very specific which I missed?0 -
I don't have haters, you say? Clearly I need to step up my MFP game. Thanks Grandpa! I'll refill the hard candy dish on my way out.0

Op actually has a point here
Is he a pencil then?0 -

I feel like you don't have a good grasp of what "haters" means in the current colloquialism.
It's not that serious.
Oh, I think I'm hip to the groovy jive.
Peace.

Although I agree with you for the most part, I don't think you understand the urban/colloquial meaning of hater:
hater
A person that simply cannot be happy for another person's success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.
Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesn't really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock some who else down a notch.
I do believe though if someone is doing something unhealthy they should be called on it. However, if that is not the case people come on MFP for support and motivation so if someone is a "hater" they can really cause damage to a person0 -

Yup, and same goes for many of the replies0 -

There was a VLCD thread earlier where one guy who was promoting it called everyone else "self righteous haters" because we all suggested sustainable lifestyle changes and a moderate deficit.0 -
There are many people who want to believe that they are the dieting exception and try very hard to get people here in the community to join them on their self pity party.0

OP knows what is meant by haters, and he knows that he sees it in tons of threads around here.
People get called haters, meanies, bullies, etc. Usually just because someone doesn't like what they are hearing because it's not what they want to hear. Those words get thrown around like they are nothing.
OP Posts only wanting to hear what they want to hear, but they don't say that in their post.
Gets varying opinions.
Doesn't like getting anything other than pats on the back.
Gets mad and calls everyone mean, bullies, or haters.
OP continues with the butthurt and is actually the one that turns mean.
There are a dozen of these threads every single day. I guarantee you'll see all of those words, or some combination of those words in those posts. It's usually thrown around in threads where no one has been mean, but someone has perceived it as mean because they don't know how to separate their emotions and read things with an open mind. Or they get upset because deep down they know the other person is right, because in the back of their head it's what they've been hearing, but they are in denial.0 -
I agree with a lot of the posts that most people don't hate - they just like to express their opinion in a overly direct way.
That being said I have one member actually post that they hated me - it was to date the proudest moment of my time on MFP!0 -
The word haters does get overused. I always thought the intention of it was a light hearted way to brush off actual hate. An example of actual hate being the members of the Westboro Baptist Church (as an extreme example). It's not letting those hateful people bring you down and putting on a gay pride show instead. It's not hate directed at an individual, but hate to a group.0

I get assh*le or smart*ss much more frequently than I get "hater". Am I doing something wrong? Please help.0

Without them we'd have Happy Pushers and I can't abide by that.0 -
