Making my own recipes and using a food scale

How in the heck do I use my food scale to figure out calories per portion when I make my own unique recipes? And how do I figure out what a portion is? I've tried using the Recipe Builder on here and I'm still confused, lol. So I don't know what to say other than I could use some tips or maybe someone knows of a better way. I've just been sticking to things that I can easily measure and weigh but I don't want to do this all the time. I feel stupid I can't figure it out so I'm asking for help because it's important not only to me but my poor family I've been depriving, lol. :laugh:

    Weigh each ingredient as it goes in, then weigh the final product and divide by an easy number (100 g, for example).

    For example, a basic soup recipe might be, 100g carrot, 100 g celery, 100 g onion, 1 tblsp olive oil, and 3 cups chicken broth, which you add to the recipe builder.

    Then weigh the final product. Let's say all that came to 400 g. For serving size, put 4 (100 g). You got 4 servings of 100 g out of the final batch.

    The final product isn't usually a nice round number like that, but you get the idea.

    ^Exactly. I just weigh each thing as I put it in, then weigh the whole thing and divide appropriately. It doesn't take much time once you get used to it.
