Advice needed from tall ladies

So, I've been different weights all my life and I've ALWAYS been called overweight no matter what weight I actually am. I am 5' 10'' and at my lowest, I was 147 pounds. I wore a size 12 at my smallest and I'm wondering if it's part of where the comments come from. I come from a big family and I just don't know what weight I should be at. I have a large frame so I don't know if I should be under 140 pounds. I'm sick of being called fat though. >_< For the record, this was many different people (including a psychiatrist) so I'm not convinced I just hang around #$@holes. lol

What weights are you comfortable at? What tells you that you are ready to stop losing?

I am 5'9" and currently 155ish with a goal of 150. I'm somewhere between 20-25% body fat, which is perfectly "healthy".

Make a goal (say 150lbs), get there, then re-evaluate. You don't have to decide on your final goal weight right this second.

maybe by seeing other people's bodies at your height with different weights you will find something that seems appealing to you?

also the BMI calculator can help. a little. it's not a be all end all but it's a start. it's on here somewhere.

hmm. I am 5'11 and 195 right now and in a size 12

I have been lifting progressively heavier weights for about two years now, so I think I can fit in a smaller size even at a higher weight.

OH and to answer the question, I dont know what weight I will be comfortable with. Right now I am focused on being strong and losing body fat so I look better naked.

and I do NOT believe you need to be under 140 pounds... AT ALL.

Do you do any strength training?

I want your legs! (That didn't sound creepy at all, lol). I do strength training twice a week to build up muscle. I was quite strong at 160 and toned.

The body gallery helped me a lot. My height, 178 cm or 5'10'', comes in all shapes and sizes, so it's about finding what suits my figure. I'm aiming for around 72 kg or so, which is close to 160 lbs I think, can't recall right now, but 147 sounds quite small on my frame. In the end I don't give a flying *kitten* about the scale anymore, but it's muscle strength that counts now for me.

My body gallery is awesome, thanks for that link! :)

I'm 5'8", so not as tall as you. Right now I'm 131 and am definitely not happy here so I'm just seeing how I feel as I lose. It seems to be working alright for me, not having a specific goal and just judging by the mirror/how I feel.

I am 5'10 and hovering between 128 and 130 currently. I am comfortable here, but similarly, I was not too uncomfortable last year at 140, because it was mostly muscle and I had the same low bodyfat I have now (12-14%). I have never been over 150 in my life, and 150 was only hit when I had undiagnosed hypothyroidism. My setpoint seems to be around 140.

Here are my stats for reference: I'm 5'9". I originally set my goal at 165 based on the lowest I'd been comfortably in recent memory (I was 147 at one point as an adult but was seriously hyperthyroid and had no muscle). I mentioned this to one of my doctors and she suggested trying between 155-160. While this sounded ludicrous at the time, that's where I'm at now (I bounce in a 5 pound range) and I'm pretty happy with it, although I'd like to cut my body fat a little lower. At this range I'm wearing a size 8.

I'm also 46 years old, and a little paranoid about losing too much fat in my face before I lose what I want to in my belly and thighs. We'll see how that goes.

I think your body fat percentage matters most. I got down pretty close to my goal (before gaining a bit back) and I still didn't like how I looked. I still had most of my fat on my stomach, my legs were fine from biking, but my shoulders and arms looked too boney. It left me in a weird position of not quite knowing what weight I wanted to be at. Now I'm focusing more on building muscle and my body fat percentage. I think that would be a better goal. If you're trying to be healthy, you can start for somewhere in the healthy BMI range just to get started, but ultimately body fat percentage is more helpful.

5'10 and 147 sound super thin and awesome. Anyone who called you fat should be ashamed. I'm 5'9 and my goal is just 162. That is my lowest and I got down to a 9 back then.
