Magic Switch Flipped

I know I'm not very far into my weight loss yet (7 lbs), but I have tried to lose weight before and it was like beating my head into a brick wall. I rarely lasted more than a day. This time I had about four days of crushing hunger in the beginning and now it is like a switch has flipped. I don't crave bread or butter or any of the unhealthy foods I used to gorge on. I stop getting hungry around 7pm and sometimes I'm not even hungry for dinner. Even if I never lost another pound, I feel so much better eating this many fruits and vegetables and so few wheat-based carbs. I can't even imagine drinking less than 100 oz of water. IT IS WEIRD. Did I really just have to wait out an addiction period? Anyone else have this?
Now if I could just hire a personal chef so I didn't have to cook...

The first three weeks were incredibly tough for me. I'd never been so hungry and the cravings were immense. Once my body got used to good food, I felt fabulous!
I struggle to overeat without consequences now, plus 95% of the time, I drink water. Can't imagine having anything else daily.0 -
Yes, detox is rough but worth it. Now I recommend you catch the exercise bug--when you have it you will NEED to exercise almost every day or feel polluted. This will be the beginning of your virtuous circle of weight loss.0

I know what you mean. Cleaning up my diet feels soooo good! There have been only a couple of occasions when I have eaten to the point of feeling too full over the past two months and it felt just awful. I used to eat to that point regularly before I started on MFP. Now my diet is much cleaner (with occasional treats) and I'm losing weight slowly but steadily. I also find that I'm clearer headed and less sleepy. I'm loving drinking water as well....something I really almost never did before.
MFP is a revelation to me. I have tried so many 'diets' before and nothing was sustainable over a long time. Over the years, I've done South Beach, The Zone, Jenny Craig, WW, Herbal Magic.....now they all just seem like gimics hiding the scientific requirement for a caloric deficit. How simple is that! Counting calories sounded like a big hassle and I just never wanted to do it. MFP has made it easy. I've heard for years that the people who are most successful at losing and maintaining are people who keep a food diary. MFP helps me accomplish this simply and efficiently. My plan to to continue for at least a year and likely much longer.....I know that getting to my goal weight is only step one. Learning how to maintain my weight is the bigger lifeskill that I need to learn.
I can so relate to your Magic Switch.....me too!0 -
Last night spaghetti squash as the pasta and Newman's own marinara. Tonight romaine lettus instead of tortillas filed with shrimp, avocado corn salsa and goat cheese. There are so many good choices out there. Never ate like this before.0

Totally agree...haven't really had any cravings in about 4 months, can pass up sugary/fatty treats at work where it used to be that I'd obsess about them until I ate them, and don't really have "cheat" meals...no need when I allow myself to have whatever sounds good, but in moderation.0

I went through it about 10 years ago and have been grateful ever since. I do have lapses and it doesn't take nearly as long to recover now.0
