Victories and disappointment

Went shopping yesterday and was thrilled to be buying size 8 pants and skirts, as well as size Medium tops!! OK, one pair of jeans are a 10, but they are "skinny" jeans, so I didn't mind so much. They look good on me, so who cares what the number is, right?
My disappointment was that I really wanted to buy boots that go up my calf. Not over-the-knee boots, just under the knee... whatever you call them. I have never, NEVER been able to wear them due to my thick legs. Well, after trying on 3 pairs, I gave up. I STILL can't wear them. :-( My calfs are still as thick as they were last year. Yet, I'm down 18 pounds and 2 dress sizes. Sigh... any suggestions? Do they make boots with more material at the top? So far, I have just tried the shoe stores at the mall. Can I get them online? Thanks for any suggestions!!
Trying to not let my disappointment overshadow my victories. But I bought a really cute skirt yesterday that would look great with.... boots! :-)

I can't wear most standard fit boots...they do make adjustable/stretchable/larger calf styles

there are a lot of different brands and stores that carry 'em too0 -
Congrats on you buying a smaller size in clothes. I can relate to you wanting to wear boots. I too have a problem with boots but not with thick legs but no matter how much I gained my legs were always chicken legs. I weighed the most at 265 and my legs
were still skinny!!! So I too would love to wear boots and since I have been walking and working out my legs are getting muscles that I never knew I could have. So maybe one day we both can wear boots!\

hang in there sweetheart, i'm going to ask around and bookmark this thread so if I come up with something i'll let you know. I have the same issue with my calves being thick. you'll find them! Great job by the way on your triumph with buying those size 8 pants! YOU GO GIRL!0

That's soooooooooooo annoying, isn't it? I actually saw a programme that featured this dilemma. They sent dancers (lovely slim, lithe, fit girls) shopping for boots and even THEY struggled to get boots to fit!
Well done on your excellent achievements xxx0 -
First of all, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay for your success!
Now on to the business of fashion!
I have big calves and I was able to find boots (really cute ones too) at torrid. if u dont have a torrid near u, go to torrid.com and check their website!
also, any shoe cobbler can make a small cut in the back of ur boots, and make them wider for u and u wont even be able to notice the work (trust me, i have had this done)
Congrats and I hope this helps!0 -
I totally understand - boots are always hit and miss with me too.
I find that buying boots is trial by fire. The boots that I've had success with are boots with a bit of a stretchy material/slouchy style, lower zippers. You can get really cute ankle boots too!
Depending on where you live, you can find boots that are made for calves without much hassle. If you live in a bigger city, there are entire shops that sells wider calf boots. If you're like me and live in a smaller city, you may find that the selection is limited so you may have to just keep trying what is in stores, or think about ordering some in!
I know Sears Canada carries some brands that make their boots wider in the calf. One brand that sticks in my brain is Henri-Pierre - not sure if they are carried in the US Sears, but it's always worth a look! If you go to the Sears website, try reading the reviews of the boots. Often people will mention if they fit around the calves (as it's a very common problem for a lot of people!!)
Good luck! I'm on the same boot search!0 -
Thanks, everyone!! I appreciate the suggestions and encouragement! :flowerforyou:
Another victory - there are chocolate cupcakes in the kitchen here at work. I have walked past them four times now and am not tempted to take one. Trying to get back on track after an indulgent weekend. :bigsmile:0
