I have read some online stories about taking Omega 3 fish oil and wanted to know if anyone on MFP has tried it and if it worked for them.

hi!
i take omega 3 but just for general health reasons and not for weight loss purposes. is it supposed to help with that?0 -
When I was on "Slim 4 Life", they were avid proponents of EFAs. Their reasoning was that it helps keep your skin elastic. Is that true? I have no idea. But, I do take an Omega 3, 6 and 9 supplement as part of my regimen. It seems like there are health benefits that I would not necessarily get through my regular eating.0

I would say that the jury is still definitely out.......

Has loads of health benefits, doesn't help lose weight etc.
15ml of this stuff per day does the trick. Hits the EPA and DHA that you need:

Use this code if you like: MP835330 -
My cardiologist told me to take enough Fish Oil, so that I am getting a total of 1000 EPA + DHA. He says it's good for my heart/cholesterol and other health issues.1

Omega 3 fatty acids are good for general health, but provide no direct weight loss benefit.

Supplements can be taken, but there are a lot of great sources like fatty fish (salmon, tuna) and many seeds. Fitting these into your diet will help boost the nutritional benefits you will see, but weight loss boils down to eating in a calorie deficit.0 -
There is evidence that people who regularly make cold water fish (high in Omega 3) part of their diet have lower rates of heart disease, there are no studies that show that taking Omega 3 supplements have any effect on the incidence of heart disease.0

I take it every day just as part of my daily routine. I also give it to my kids. Seems to help with brain function. My step daughter's who have a stupid mother are not as dumb as they were a year ago but that could also be attributed to being a year older. She was, unfortunately, wearing off on them. I don't know.2

Check this graph for evidence supporting various supplements:

I started taking Omega 3 not only for all the health aspects, but because it also helped me with the edema in my lower legs. But that is just my own experience.0

I think eating fish is healthy. I don't think the supplements do much. Then again, there are prescription strength tablets that may help with hypertriglyceridemia.
I, personally, don't take any supplements, but rather I try to eat nutritious foods.0 -

This ^^
Omega 3 fish oil from fish is healthy. Few would debate that point. But research on supplements has failed to live up to expectations. Best to just eat more fish.0 -
I take them gummy style. I don't know if they have helped, but since they taste like candy, I'm going to keep taking them.3

I'm at work and can't delve too deeply into these articles, but a lot of them seem to read similarly to anti-aspartame fear mongering.1

I read an article online that says that people lost more weight when they were taking fish oil.0

Okay thanks.0

What was the source?
ETA: Apparently there is some preliminary research showing a link between fish oil supplements (a specific supplement) and weight loss. But it can be dangerous to make dietary changes based on one study, as subsequent studies may not back up the results, or may find other negative side effects.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/993.htmlWeight loss. Some evidence shows that eating fish improves weight loss and decreases blood sugar in overweight people and people with high blood pressure. Preliminary research also shows that taking a specific fish oil supplement 6 grams daily (Hi-DHA, NuMega), providing 260 mg DHA/gram and 60 mg EPA/gram, significantly decreases body fat when combined with exercise.0 -
It helps with Cardiovascular health. I sell Nutrilite Organic supplements and multiple customers have come to me with great feedback on it. Better health reported by their doctors and feeling better. Steer clear of drug store brands. Look for NSF certification.1

hmmm... selling? A few fatty fish in you diet might be better.0

There was just a study that showed Omega-3s had no impact on memory/improving brain function.
I don't take any vitamins or supplements because they don't have to undergo FDA testing.0 -
I take Innovix Labs Triple Strength, two soft gels per day. I do it for the brain health and the anti-inflammatory properties. If I were a male I might be concerned about the prostate cancer risk but I would have to do more research.0

Walnuts and sardines have Omega 3.1

I take Omega 3 fish oil twice a day every day it has helped me with my weight loss and cholesterol, I recommend it highly but you should always check with you doctor before taking anything new, especially if you are on any other medication, some supplements don't mix well with medication.
But this is my opinion and I'm sure others will have other opinions and don't believe everything you read on the inter-web.

RiIght. Fish oil is a blood thinner and could interfere with other medications. Potential problems could arise if one takes aspirin, warfarin, . . .1 -
My family doctor actually recommended that I start taking 2 Omega 3 fish oil capsules a day2

I take omega 3 oil everyday. Not just for general health reasons but because it has an anti-inflammatory property to it and helps me avoid the soreness from my workout.1

I'm not sure about weight loss, but I take this product,http://bit.ly/oMEGAthree, and it does wonders for my face! My skin is much clearer and there is no "fishy" after taste!1

I took Salve Oleum 3-6-9 fish oil from salve supplements to help me with my anxiety disorder as per my doctor's advice.
it really helps in making me calm nowadays (ive been taking it for 3 months) and a side effect is the noticeable weight loss. I lost 5 lbs in the last 3 months, it is not a big loss, but whats pleasant about it is that I didnt do anything extra with my workout.
I guess it helps with fat metabolism. I read it somewhere before.2
