Anyone on Phentermine??

I got it prescribed to me since i'm so overweight. I'm 26 and weigh 238. it suppresses my appetite and gives me energy. My doctor gave me a goal of eating 900 calories a day. I realize it's a very low cal diet so would like to see who else is on it and would like to join me in this weight loss journey :)

I'm on week 4 of being on it, I absolutely LOVE it. Too bad you can't take it long term. I see a dr every month, I go next Monday and get weighed. I'm at 260 and my goal is to eventually get to 135.

    This.

    900 calories a day?! That's ridiculous!

My doctor thinks a 500 calorie deficit could push it for some people... can't imagine cutting calories that drastically.

You're not that overweight. Stop taking it, set a more realistic calorie goal, fire your doctor and find a better one. If your current doctor truly set your calorie goal at 900 calories per day, he's a quack. That's quite dangerous. You will lose lean muscle and possibly do organ damage as well. Phentermine is dangerous. You don't need pills to lose weight.

Did the doctor prescribe the weight loss pill and drastic calorie cut because the risk of being overweight outweighs the risk of getting the weight off quickly?

Are you under the doctor's almost constant supervision? In other words, how often does he want to see you?

238 pounds doesn't seem like too much to be lost with just a reasonable calorie limit.

ETA: and according to your ticker you are only trying to lose 38 pounds.

    Hi Griss,
I am also taking Phentermine. It makes me uneasy to see you are on 900 calories. I know that if I went on a 900 calorie a day diet, I would quickly get tired of it and give up.

Hi guys thanks for the feedback. I'll talk with my doctor about this 900 calorie I thought it was pretty drastic too but according to my BMI I'm considered "morbidly obese"!

I set my goal at 38 for now for encouragement. I have a long way to go.

Please reconsider taking pills for weight loss....when you stop, you will gain back the weight. Been there, done that! I ended up with Kidney disease from taking diet pills and high protein diets. There is no magic bullet....it's all about calories in vs calories out.
Give yourself a reasonable amount of calories (Im at 1480) and start doing a bit of exercise. Start with a 10 minute walk and add to it and you will gain endurance and stamina...next thing you know you'll be at the gym doing the elliptical!

900 calories? I would suggest a 2nd opinion. Phentermine may work for a while but when you come off of it, you tend to regain. I am assuming that you went to one of those "weight loss clinics". Those are the ones that prescribe this stuff. The BEST way is to lose weight by increasing exercise and reducing intake (which of course is necessary for weight loss anyway)... Best wishes on every success.

I'm sending a friend request. I'm on phentermine too, though I'm about to be taken off it. Most of us on medications stay "underground" as there is so much judgment about it on the site. Good luck! :flowerforyou:

It's legal in the US, you just need a prescription. I'm in Florida.

You do have to get a paper prescription though, they can't call it in for you.

I think a lot of people misunderstand legitimate concern for someone's health as judgment of life choices. Just a thought.

Maybe so. I had too many people tell me that my doctor was stupid, without knowing my medical history. When it comes to choosing between my doctor and people on the Internet, I'm choosing my doctor every time.

You're doctor is actually pretty awesome. My doctor hates that stuff and won't prescribe it for more than 3 months (I know because a couple years ago I asked and that's what he told me). It didn't work for me because I didn't want to put in the work or learn portion control. That is essential to losing weight. That's the only way you'll lose it and keep it off. It's not a diet it's lifestyle changes that are sustainable. You can't take this pill the rest of your life.
