I am going to get a new tattoo soon (number 9) and I really want stars that shape to the inside of my hips up my stomach. My (and my husbands) concern is that when I get pregnant (hope to start trying late 2011) that it will stretch and look 'odd'. Can I get some advice on this. Everything else I have i'm not worried about because they are on my back, lip, arms, and ankle. I am open to other ideas for tattoos, I am considering doing one on my upper right thigh, but don't know what I want there yet or one on my left foot. All my tattoos have an asian theme. Kanji for: Strength, Fire, Ox (horriscope), In Memory Of (Janakae is in english), elegance. Other tattoos are a Majin symbol inside my bottom lip, Calalilly with Philippians 3:14 (kanji for elegance with it), Lotus and cherry blossoms in a wave on my left ribs, and 2 dragons with a heart between them on back right hip. If you have any ideas or can give advice on getting a tattoo on the front of my hip I would greatly appreciate it.

That is possible, and what if they have to do a C. Sounds to me, it could wait a while, but it up to yu.
  • My sister is covered in stars from her hip all the up her side to her breast and she got pregnant a few months after. She got fairly big during her pregnancy and they are fine now. We both also have matching tattoo's on our R hip and never had a problem during a pregnancy.

Hi, I don't have a definite answer, but I do know someone who is currently 8 months pregnant and has a large side piece. She has taken pictures along the way and I have not seen any changes to the tattoo. As I said though, she is still pregnant so Im not sure how it will look after giving birth.....
    Good luck :)

It really just depends on the elasticity of your skin. I would definitely try for another place and then maybe after you are done having kiddos then get your tattoo there. I have five but none where I would have to worry about having another baby and it messing up. My brother's ex had one across hers and well, it's not so cute anymore but she also had twins. Rambling. Anyway, it's your call really.
  • My skin seems to be good. I did gain 20lbs in a month plus more (gradually) since April thanks to thyroid... and have lost it (I digress) anywho, I have no stretch marks now. Thank you all for your help. I'm just trying to decide if its a risk worth taking and what the odds are :)
  • I have a HUGE tattoo on my stomach and when I got pregnant it got bigger, haha. When I delivered it looked kinda bad and I was worried but after working out and losing the baby weight it looks just like it did pre-baby. I hope this helps.
  • All advice and experience helps Thank you :)

It really does depend on the elasticity of your skin. When I had babies my skin went back within a few months, i've never had much for stretch marks, but then I didnt get my tattoos until after they were born. My whole left side is a tattoo now. If you know you are predisposed to stretch marks, then i'd suggest waiting. Tattoos are an investment, I wouldnt go out and get something I could not guarantee would look good. But it is up to you :)
