I'm not really "new" but this is my first post since recommitting to changing my habits/diet. I've been so fed up with the weight I've become since quitting smoking and have tried all the fads and different "diets" and am finally giving in and going the old fashioned gym-and-calorie-deficit route. So far, two weeks in I'm doing well -- weights and cardio 4+ times a week for the past couple weeks. I HATE CARDIO. Ugh. I'm terrified to step on the scale though because although I know muscle weighs more than fat, if I don't see much of a payoff for all that effort I'm afraid I'll quit....as I have in the past. I've adjusted this time so that I'm not denying myself, just modifying the foods I love to fit into my allotted daily calories. No more fads and crap. I blame them for helping me get up to the weight I am now.

Trying to get from 210 to 150. Wish me luck :-?

Good luck! You can do it! What kind of cardio are you doing? I just signed on with a trainer and before that I always figured cardio was an eliptical/treadmill/bike only. He has me doing some strength exercises that also has cardio mixed in with it. It's surprisingly fun to do.
I also totally understand with the whole scale thing. I weigh myself almost daily and some days I think "Yeah, I know I'm a pound lighter" then I look at the scale and see that I've gone up a few pounds. It's so discouraging but then I remember that I'm building muscle mass as well.

I've heard the best calorie shredder is interval training on the treadmill. So I do 2 minutes walking at a fast pace, like 3.5mph, then run for a minute, then repeat. But occasionally I do elliptical or arc trainer. I hate them all, lol. But the treadmill usually goes by faster because I'm changing up what I'm doing constantly. I LOVE weight training. I lost like 35 lbs in two months doing P90X, a couple years ago but find if I don't get up and go to the gym I am not disciplined to do it at home these days.
