HELP! Polar/ Fitbit/ Heart rate watches.......

What are the pro's and con's and differences of all of these. Are fitbits, heart rate monitors or are they called something else? I want something like this for my birthday but I want to ask for something specific or my mom will buy me a $2 watch from amazon that probably wont work. (but if they do I'll buy it now ;) )

    depends what you want to use it for, if you want to monitor your activity level I'd go with a fitbit. If you just want to see what calories you burn during exercise, then heart rate monitor. I actually have both ::)) I use the HRM when I do workouts and keep my bodybug on me all day to see how many steps I get and if I don't hit my goal I will run around the house. LOL I love using something that monitors your steps and such. Its a huge motivator

    I use my HRM strictly for my workout burns. And my FitBit, I use for motivation to get my behind moving and get my steps in.

    As already said...fitbit is an activity monitor that calculates your steps, so good for step based activity. Heart rate monitors if (!) combined with the "right" watch is much more. I use both, the fitbit One and the Polar RCX5 multi sports watch with heart rate monitor and gps. The second one is much more expensive, but as it can monitor my very personal fitness level, e.g. VO2max, retsting heart rate...Max heart rate...it can give me much more accurate numbers when it comes to exercise calories, particularly if the exercise is steady rate cardio.
    There are now activity trackers out there that can also measure your heart rate, you might want to look at vivofit, polar loop...search on facebook for a very good group called "activity trackers", there are quite a few reviews out there from people who seem to have tried them all.
    I would not want to have to live without any of my two devices!
