With my schedule at work, I seldom get a chance to sit and eat regular meals. I have containers with fruit and vegies and some sort of protein and I grab something to nibble when I get the chance. On my days off, I find I have the same problem. I've started using Almased as a breakfast after I had a couple of the guys at work who are body builders/trainers ok it. I have no problem with drinking lots of water and the Almased, but I have trouble sitting down to eat a real meal.
Can I lose weight with just grazing during the day and not eating regular meals?

Yes, if you eat in a caloric deficit.
Although I would make an effort to ensure you eat a sufficient quantity of micronutrients (fruits and veggies).0 -
Meal timing, sitting down or standing up, eating once a day or eating 15 times a day are all irrelevant to losing weight. Maintaining a calorie deficit is how the body loses. To stay healthy, it's a good idea to also try and meet your macros (protein, fats, carbs).
ETA: After looking at your diary, you netted well below 1000 calories most of the logged days. Not sure if the logging was accurate or not. Eating so little (if that is the case) makes it extremely difficult to meet your nutritional requirements.0 -
I've tried to be really accurate. Have been using measuring cups until I get my scale...which hopefully will be tomorrow. All that food that's listed, though, has been real work to eat! I'm just not really hungry and not all that interested in food most of the time. I should be skinny!
Hopefully, when I have my scale I'll find out that I'm eating more than I thought. Otherwise I may just have to adjust what I'm eating, and maybe when, to see if I can get a better handle on the calories.

Oh sure, I'm a grazer. I have a section for "afternoon snacks" in my diary. There's a lot of time in between lunch and supper for me, so I end up grazing a lot in the afternoon and early evening. I find it works SO much better than eating humongous meals. My blood sugar stays stable, I stay full, and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself.
Everyone does it differently. Some people feel satisfied and happy doing three meals, some people need a snack, other people need six small meals, some people skip breakfast, whatever. All that matters is hitting your calorie goals, and maybe macros if you're interested in that.0 -
Before children, I had a 24 inch waist. I gained 63 lbs with the first one, never got it all off before #2 showed up. With 2 babies 15 months apart, I didn't make time for ME. Even heavy, I've always been fairly active, but the weight just hung around. It's yo-yo'd a bit, but never gotten back to where I was happy with it. Eventually I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and the meds made me feel better, but the weight was still just not moving. Then after being misdiagnosed with numerous things from IBS to spastic colon to lactose intolerance, they found I have a gluten intolerance.
I haven't always had trouble eating. I think this is just my brain saying "enough!" Plus I've been listening to meditation tapes about weight loss when I go to sleep...some of them mention cutting back on eating. And it's hot outside...and that makes a difference, too.
I think I'm just going to have to try to hit a happy medium with appetite, get my scale and start weighing so I'm sure what's going in! I really do have a problem with sitting down to a full meal tho...and part of that could be 16 years of a job where it's almost impossible to sit and have a meal. Most of us just grab on the run. I'm just making sure (finally) that my food is healthy.0 -

You don't have to be hungry to get fat.
I never experienced the constant, ravenous hunger that I see other fat people talking about. I was a fat kid, lost most of the weight in my late teens, and gained it all back, plus double, because I had a serious problem with inactivity and a wicked, nasty sweet tooth. I would eat copious amounts of sweet foods, and then have the "I might as well start tomorrow" mentality and go hog wild on the foods I use to think of as naughty, regardless of hunger. I was starting again every day, "failing" every day, and then going on "one last food blowout" before perfection arrived the next day...a day that never came. It was just an endless dopamine hit, fulfilling a craving, rebelling against constant restriction. Real, true hunger is what helped me maintain for years. Following real, true hunger would never have gotten me fat again in the first place. Back then, and to this day, I am seldom ever seriously hungry.0 -
grazing is a dangerous thing for me as I end up overeating...eating regular meals, ironically sometimes helps to control overall calories...0

if you like grazing throughout the day, just make sure to be more mindful...0
